Our History
The Women in Transition Partnership was formed when Levi Strauss closed its last textile mill in East Tennessee. As a way of giving back to the community—and to the many women suddenly thrown into transition—the Levi Strauss Foundation brought together a group of 16 thoughtful women representing 16 agencies providing services to women and requested that they imagine for the women of East Tennessee unique projects that would be helpful, resourceful, supportive. This group came together in a spirit of shared vision for a comprehensive, holistic and dedicated approach to support all women in transition.
